I'm a 6th grader almost 7th and I got put in pre-algebra and I don't know what it is.

I'm currently in 6th grade right now, and am taking algebra 1 in school. In 8th grade you take 8th grade math or Algebra 1. it depends on how ready you think your child is.
When I was in 9th grade, all my buddies were in Algebra 1, while I was in Algebra 2. I'm in 7th grade right now, and taking algebra 1. Pre-Algebra is actually the 8th grade standards, while Math 7 is the 7th grade's... some things are similiar, but your class will have a harder "twist" to your problems... i honestly didnt find it that hard. You just need to pay attention.

It really clear on what they know or don't. It depends on your opinion and what you believe he can handle but my son took Algebra 1 in sixth grade and that worked for him. I DON NOT BLAME MY PARENTS, I am the first child of two and they did not know much bout the whole gate thing. Will i be completely loss without pre-algebra. We homeschool. If your son knows how to solve this equation: 495=150+3p , then good job to him.
im in 7th grade right now and i skipped pre algebra so im in algebra 1 right now, and im having some trouble in doing it, b/c pre algebra provides the basic building blocks for the more advanced math, so i think it totally depends on how comfortable ur son is. By 10th grade they will be taking college classes. I'm in 7th grade currently, and in Algebra 1. Well I am in algebra 1 in 6th grade. I am in ninth grade and i took geometry in 8th and algebra in 7th and pre algebra in 6th. I think your son should take pre algebra because your son is good in math i took pre algebra in sixth grade,and im moving on to algebra 1.if your kid is strong in math,then you are gonna want to start with pre algebra,or algebra will make no sense. I had a B in the 1st quarter and am currently with an A+ right now. (he was in the middle class) He asked her if he was able to go to algebra 1 next year, but she said it wouldn't be possible without going to pre algebra, but he could with doing lots of work over the summer.
If he doesn't feel ready for algebra, take pre-algebra. If your student is being offered Pre Algebra and they have only been in a normal 6th grade class I would defiantly choose prealgebra. Pre-Algebra is 8th grade math, and Math 7 is for seventh graders. Seventh graders are capable of Algebra 1 or even Geometry, depending on how well they have prepared.
Introducing Algebra at such an early age often causes more harm than good since kids end up discouraged and hating math. I struggled to keep a B in the class, but my teacher acted like she was a college professor., but I thank her for it because I wouldn't be able to make A's In Algebra 1 if it wasn't for her. I took alegebra in 7th grade and got an A in both semesters. at first you will be doing something and the next day you will be doing somethingelse.
Overall a good Decision. Pre algebra never really helped prepare me for algebra 1, so I think skipping it would not cause a great deal of harm. I got a 505 on my state test and was put straight into Algebra 1.

I suggest pre algebra, it's much easier than APA, unless he wants to be challenged. We can help. Almost everything was new to me there but when I would talk about it and compare it with my friendsâ experience who are in math 6, many of the concepts I learned were also taught in 6th grade.
If his schools like mine, he will get a zero period in the high school, and for 1 of his 6 periods, he will probably be a teachers aid or some sort of help for staff. I am in the 7th right right now and i am taking algebra one I was in honors language and i took a test to determine if I should go and I did well do now I'm in algebra 1 Even students who took Pre-Algebra, some of them are not yet ready in Algebra 1. I was 7 points from getting a perfect score and got a perfect score on my regular math EOG.

Prealgebra introduces algebra concepts and takes each one slower and therefore does not cover as much material as does a standard Algebra I course. My son was picked for the honors Alg.
