We watched him "find his fit" over the last year and transform into a confident, engaged learner and leader who truly respects and likes his teachers - all of them. I have many friends who enjoy/enjoyed their high school experience here, I personally needed to be with more kids. Our second child makes friends easily, is very active but needs more instruction and coaching in academic areas.
The teachers are generally very friendly and highly invested in their respective subjects.
The sports teams are average, and spirit surrounding them has generally decreased. Our Monks are the foundation of our community. Through my time here I grew as an individual and was taught the importance of work. Some of my best friends are students from different grades who I met in my extracurricular! Their FSHA sisters are intelligent , kind and from different walks of life. Both have gone on to college (one has graduated) and were well prepared not only academically, but also for life.
We have found such an amazing community of parents, teachers, and for us and our two boys, and we all made close friends quickly. The school day has a later start time than most schools, which is a model that has been suggested of all middle and high schools. Boarding students have a lot of freedom, although it can feel kind of mandated at times - there's only a few places to go on the weekends, you have to write a form weeks in advance if you're staying overnight with your parents, and if you're sick you stay in a hot room for 9 hours with nobody checking on you. The academics can feel like a lot, but there's tons of places to get help. My son got in and has absolutely flourished! They are critical thinkers, they know how to advocate for themselves and stand up for what they believe, and they are not afraid to take risks. The faculty are incredibly supportive of each student and meet them where they are, playing to strengths and quietly establishing strong relationships with the kids to be able to coax them into improving their weaker sides and try new things. The school motto “Servons” is achieved through the service work that the school persuaded their students to sign up for. I love Catalina - it's my home! The dorms only opened in 2019 and the facilities are top-notch. The resources the school provides are good, but can be improved, in the areas of science, math, and technology. The boys are thriving academically, and it feels like our whole family is flourishing at Oak Grove.It is truly an amazing and magical place! Of course, all of these events are still enjoyable, and there's nothing that brings people together like complaining. The student population is not incredibly diverse, which is definitely detrimental to their culture. California Crosspoint Academy is constantly growing in student population, in building complexes, and in doing the works of Jesus Christ.
