All were interesting in their own way, and well written. It's hard to sleep at night after contemplating all the frightening scenarios put forth in this wonderful sci-fi anthology. The anthology is a collection of stories involving the upcoming robot uprising. Thank you for the thoughtful write ups and insights.I thought I’d suggest, Sea of Rust by C. Robert Cargill for this list.

As Daniel H. Wilson writes, one of the unique things about robots is, unlike other terrifying threats or monsters, that they are real and already woven into the very fabric of our society. He earned a Ph.D. in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. For what it’s worth, if you ever read fantasy books, C. Robert Cargill has two fine reads, Dreams and Shadows ( One story was by Dr. John McCarthy, the Stanford computer scientist who invented the Lisp programming language back in the 50s. The world will never be the same.“A rich cast of characters… the action scenes are crisp, the glimpses of future tech and culture are mesmerizing.”A clone’s wry inner voice propels this tale of a machine uprising with a slightly stale premise: in order to end human wars, the machines have decided to end humanity. An excellent collection of short stories about the inevitable truth of robots and AI rising up against humanity. Need another excuse to go to the bookstore this week? Programmed to wage war on behalf of its creators, the AI became self-aware and turned against all humanity. This collection of stories about robot uprisings was a bit hit and miss. Slowly the humanoids spread throughout the galaxy, threatening to stifle all human endeavors. Wilson is a contributing editor to Popular Mechanics magazine and author of How to Survive a Robot Uprising (Bloomsbury 2005), voted best book of 2006 by WIRED Magazine, as well as Where’s My Jetpack? Controlled by a childlike—yet massively powerful—artificial intelligence known as Archos, the global network of machines on which our world has grown dependent suddenly becomes an implacable, deadly foe.

This is really more of a 3.5 star book...good light reading, but not great. Designed as a concubine for a species that hasn’t existed for two hundred years, femmebot Freya Nakamichi-47—one of the last of her kind still functioning—accepts a job from a stranger to deliver a package from mercury to Mars. I had to give this collection 5 stars because it was such a treat to read a collection with literally I had to give this collection 5 stars because it was such a treat to read a collection with literally Incredible collection. That's what every story is about. After reading most of these I really really wanted more and want some to be adapted to novels. From self-aware robotic toys to intelligent machines violently malfunctioning, this anthology brings to life the half-formed questions and fears we all have about the increasing pHumans beware.

That's what every story is about. This book of short stories has this terrifying theme at its heart too, with the different authors developing a range of different ideas, from all out war, to the children’s toys taking them away from the adults, to nanobots that are capable of modifying the actual genetics of people.I have a story in this anthology, but I'm giving it the 5-star for some tales that I really loved.

Will we be taken over by our seemingly benign mechanical household servants? Regarded as soulless beings by some, devils by others, New People are slaves, soldiers, and toys of the rich in a chilling near future in which calorie companies rule the world, the oil age has passed, and the side effects of bio-engineered plagues run rampant across the globe.“This complex, literate and intensely felt tale, which recalls both William Gibson and Ian McDonald at their very best, will garner Bacigalupi significant critical attention and is clearly one of the finest science fiction novels of the year.”The play begins in a factory that makes artificial people, called In this steampunkish tale, Mattie, an intelligent automaton skilled in the use of alchemy, finds herself caught in the middle of a conflict between gargoyles, the Mechanics, and the Alchemists.

Adams does a great job putting these together, and the overall quality was high.A Cherokee citizen, Daniel H. Wilson grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

I especially liked Charles Yu's "Cycles", where a robot, even though harboring homicidal thoughts about his human, thinks the human has potential; and Seanan McGuire's "We Are All Misfit Toys in the Aftermath of the Velveteen War", which shows that conflict between humans and robots can exact an emotional toll far more devastating than any physical toll. We use robots already for so many tasks, ranging from everyday mundane cleaning through to processing sensitive military data.

He lives in Portland, Oregon. It's like watching TV. As the robotic revolution continues to creep into our lives, it brings with it an impending sense of doom. The robot here is HAL, the computer aboard the spaceship There’s also a whole subplot that follows John Isidore, a man of sub-par IQ who aids the fugitive androids. It was Cobb Anderson who built the “boppers”—the first robots with real brains.

It's a tale of the horrors of war from the perspective of a robotic victor, PTSD in silica. Asimov chronicles the development of the robot through a series of interlinked stories: from its primitive origins in the present to its ultimate perfection in the not-so-distant future—a future in which humanity itself may be rendered obsolete. Some absolutely tremendous stories, from Daniel H Wilson, Cory Doctorow, Hugh Howey and many others.
