Not only does it appear to convert the game to English, but a lot of information is also contained within it. While most western regions got Animal Crossing for the first time ever for Gamecube, Japan had Animal Crossing debut in the N64. The simple answer is getting ahold of a copy of the game, along with the cards you want and a japanese e-reader, but that's expensive and counter productive.Outside of the lost villagers, there's a few others missing features, such as nighttime Tom Nook, an expanded yet interesting Private Island feature, an expanded Diary, and other expanded features that have been lost to time.Which is why I propose the following: modding this particular version of AC for English users.
[Animal Forest emulated on Project64(PJ64)] I found an english ROM for Doubutsu no Mori. The author of the translation project posted the latest translation patch. It’s missing certain NPCs like Kapp’n and Tortimer. I found a couple of translation patches, so hopefully one of them is the version you have that is experiencing the problem. Animal Crossing GC already has codes to alter villagers, so hypothetically it wouldn't be that hard.As there are no 'secret codes' in Doubutsu no Mori to obtain a 2x1 table for free from Tom Nook, you instead have to get lucky in one of three ways: lost and found, chores, or Nook's shop. I bought a Doubutsu No Mori cartridge off ebay a few months ago when we were working on plugging in the eeprom clock emulation code. It makes sense that this version lacks certain features that the newer versions have. See the full list of available Nintendo 64 emulators for this game. Another mod would be able to get the lost villagers/islanders without the need for an e-reader, having them set up as villagers who can move in naturally. 49:21. Maybe they discontinued the translation…
It still needs some work, but a lot of hacking work appears to have been done on the game. Even the Gamecube version was made near obsolete by the DS and Wii Animal Crossing games. This is a WIP translation project for Doubutsu no Mori or Animal Forest aka Animal Crossing. While most western regions got Animal Crossing for the first time ever for Gamecube, Japan had Animal Crossing debut in the N64.
