In "Flubber," the Disney remake of "The Absent Minded Professor," Robin Williams becomes geek inventor Phillip Brainard, the role Fred MacMurray played in the 1961 black-and-white original. And though the Robin Williams remake gave it the new age CGI, the black and white gives the movie such a good feel.
Robin Williams is well suited to the role and he gives the film everything and is one of the few redeeming parts of the film. A Swiss family must survive being shipwrecked on a deserted island. A college professor invents an anti-gravity substance which a corrupt businessman wants for himself. He dislikes strong flashes and being bullied, especially around Wilson and his henchmen. Meanwhile, Brainard creates a flying car to win Sara back and tries to figure out ways to control the Flubber. Robin Williams is given no room to stretch.

Robin Williams was an amazing artist who sometimes made strange choices. My words to you guys is: If someone has great directing skills and Disney had a chance to remake The Absent Minded Professor again, please get Steven Spielberg to did it only if you're ready to make a better script with better humor and better characters. |
