However, some relevant changes in the conditions that led to the success of the third wave seem to justify a moderately pessimistic perspective on the future of democracy.Over the past decade, rising authoritarian regimes have begun to challenge the liberal international order. While the first thematic analysis of the article revolves around explicating the three key general propositions in regard to the autocratization processes, the second thematic analysis seeks to clarify both the institutional change and nation-state building dynamics (along with majority-minority relations) that shaped the contours of Turkey’s autocratization trajectory during the last decade.
