This play is so sweet and beautiful! I picked it up at the library for a quick perusal this afternoon.Cute, enjoyable play about a long-married couple at their summer home in Maine.

He is a retired professor, nearing eighty, with heart palpitations and a failing memory but still as tart-tongued, observant and eager for life as ever. The movie jumps from each character's relationship with the central character Norman; all receiving equal weight, but the relationship that was most important to Norman's development was his with his estranged Daughter Chelsea.
At Golden Pond, he and his wife nevertheless agree to care for Billy, the son of Chelsea's new boyfriend, and a most unexpected relationship blooms. It was a refreshing read to kick of July! The "resuscitation" of Norman via the 13 year old Billy might be trite, but no less true. $10 I also liked how it was written as a play and so I really enjoyed reading it. It was first performed on Broadway in 1979 and ran for 126 performances. It then took a summer break before reopening at a smaller theater for an additional 256 performances. This might be attributed to the talented cast assembled for the 1970s sleeper. Welcome back. Ethel, ten years younger, and the perfect foil for Norman, delights in all the small things that have enriched and continue to enrich their long life together. There is no guff in this play.
This reminds me of my own grandparents and idyllic summers at lake & river homes except the grandfather is very cranky at times because of his dementia.
